11/2/25 - Biggest Meeting Yet!

We had our biggest meeting yet!

We had lots of great conversation about music, 3D printing, electric bikes, Liza brought her electroforming setup which she uses to plate 3d prints with copper which was really neat. In other news, RepairCafeSB is running another repair cafe on November 15th! If your interested in participating, reach out to them via Email!
Looking forward to our next meeting at the harbor!

10/11/25 - First Meeting!

SB Makers had it's first meeting today! (Party poppers, confetti falling, etc)

I got to meet a couple of very cool people and talk about AI, robotics, 3d printing, electroforming (which I had never heard of before) and lots of other awesome things. The conversation was so good, we wrapped up around 2:30PM. This is exactly what I was hoping would happen (and what I hope continues to be the vibe) for this club. It was also suggested that I set up a discord server, which I may do sometime this coming week!

Next Saturday I will be out of town, but I'll update the site with the next meeting date, time, and location soon!

10/8/25: Making a website!

Hello, it's me: Victor! Since we’re starting a new maker club here in SB, it’s fitting that the very first thing made by the club (or, at least, it’s first member) is the club website. (oohs and ahhs all around, I’m sure)

If it wasn’t IMMEDIATELY obvious, I learned how to code websites in the early 2000’s. Reactivating that old skill was definitely a challenge but I think this should be pretty serviceable. Aesthetically, while the site isn't quite frutiger-aero, the inspiration behind the color scheme is not exactly a mystery.

Now, you may have noticed that “Under Construction” scrolling marquee near the top of the site. While the bones of the site are done and it's definitely at the “good enough” stage in terms of functionality, there are still some features that I haven’t quite gotten to. Namely, the tutorials page. Ideally, once the club is going, I’d love a member populated knowledge base of our various hobbies/crafts/skills so new makers can have a ready jumping off point if they want to learn a new skill. Something so people don’t have to slog through increasingly worsening internet search results to find out how to make a stitch or solder a circuit.

I swear, it’ll make more sense once I get it going.

The other is the Local Resources section. We actually have a few decent resources in town for art, crafting, and maker-ing in general. Small businesses need us now more than ever, so we should support them if we can. If you’ve got a suggestion for it, let me know at the next meeting you attend (maybe that’ll even be our first meeting)!

That’s more or less all I’ve got for now!
